Frequently Asked Questions
I know that starting therapy, especially for a child or teen, can bring up a lot of questions. This page is here to give you clear, honest answers so you feel informed and supported from the very beginning. Still wondering about something? Reach out anytime—I’m happy to help.
How do we get started?
The first step is to contact me for a free 15–20 minute phone consultation. This gives us a chance to talk through your concerns, answer any initial questions, and see if we’re a good fit.

If we decide to move forward, we’ll schedule an intake session.

What ages do you work with?
I work with children (ages 8+), teens, and young adults. Each stage of development comes with its own unique challenges, and I tailor my approach to meet clients where they are—emotionally, socially, and developmentally.
What is your availability for sessions?
I currently see clients Tuesday through Thursday, with a mix of daytime and limited after-school/evening appointments. Those later spots tend to fill quickly, so if you're hoping for after-school hours and one isn’t available right away, we can begin with a daytime session and I’ll gladly add you to my waitlist for your preferred time.
For school-aged clients, I’m happy to provide attendance letters if needed. I also offer virtual sessions for Ohio residents, which can be a convenient option during the day for teens and young adults.
How long are the therapy sessions?
Therapy sessions typically last 45–60 minutes. Intake sessions may last up to 90 minutes, especially if we’re covering background history or parent/caregiver concerns.
What approach do you use in therapy? What if it doesn’t work?
I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches—like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play-based interventions, mindfulness, and EMDR—depending on each client’s age, needs, and goals. No two kids or teens are exactly alike, so sessions are tailored using a mix of talking, activities, creative tools, and age-appropriate strategies.

If something isn’t working or clicking, we’ll talk about it. I regularly check in with clients and/or parents (especially during early sessions) to share updates and make sure we’re on the right track. Your insight is important, and I welcome ongoing collaboration throughout the therapy process.

If you ever have questions or concerns, you’re welcome to reach out between sessions via email—I do my best to respond within 1–2 business days.
How long will someone be in therapy?
There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline when it comes to therapy. Some clients benefit from short-term support focused on specific goals, while others may need longer-term care depending on their needs, experiences, and progress.
I typically recommend starting with bi-weekly sessions to build rapport and create consistency. Along the way, I check in regularly to share updates, assess progress, and adjust goals as needed.
The overall goal is to help each client feel more confident, equipped, and supported in navigating life’s challenges—both in and outside of the therapy space.
What if I don’t have insurance or my insurance isn’t accepted?
If you're not using insurance, I offer private pay options and a limited number of sliding scale spots to help make therapy more accessible. These spots are reserved for situations where there’s a strong clinical fit, and availability may vary.
If I’m unable to offer a sliding scale spot at the time, I’m happy to provide referrals to trusted providers who may better fit your financial or insurance needs.
